The Big Band Double Header July 2024
Thursday July 18th 2024 From 8:00pm – Late
Join us at:
The Oxford Golf Club, Hill Top Road, Oxford, OX4 1PF
The Big Band Double Header is back for July 2024. Every other month, our friends – The Velvet Tones, present the Big Band Double Header. We are very lucky in Oxford as we get to enjoy live music on a regular basis. There is nothing quite like dancing to a Big Band and the connection between musicians and dancers can produce something very special. The band have spent the last 2 months in rehearsal and now are ready for their Sumer Performance. This is a free entry gig with donations requested and expected for a nominated charity of the night. The suggested donation is £6. Don’t forget to hold something back for the famous £2, 2 prize raffle which features the finest bottle of sparkling wine that the local supermarket’s bargain rack has to offer.
This month there is a real treat for you as the 41 Degrees Big Band are The Velvet Tones’ guests.
41 Degrees at the Big Band Double Header
41 Degrees Big Band are an exciting 18-piece Big Band, form the North Wiltshire area. Their set covers everything from the classic big band era and the last time they played it really was a treat for dancers. The band regularly perform around the South, Midlands and West Country and everywhere they play, they bring a great atmosphere.
This is one you will not want to miss. It is also a great opportunity for dancers who haven’t yet taken their first steps on the social floor, as the crowd is always very supportive and encouraging no matter what level of dancer you are. Come and join us for a great evening of dancing with some absolutely awesome music.
The Charity Of The Night is ARCH Oxfordshire
The nominated charity is the Assisted Reading For Children (ARCH Oxfordshire). ARCH Oxfordshire, as the name suggests, are a local charity. Their vision is to inspire a love of reading in children from all of Oxfordshire’s communities, which will enhance their wellbeing and improve their life chances.
Oxfordshire has more than 16,000 children living in poverty; twelve of its wards are listed in the top 20% most disadvantaged nationally. Around 20% of children leave primary school with a reading level below expected and this has worsened following the pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis. In some areas of disadvantage this figure can be as high as 60%. This has an impact on children’s ability to learn across all subjects and severely affects their confidence.
Arch Oxfordshire work with local schools who report dramatic improvements in reading ability. As a result interest, comprehension, self-esteem, communication skills, and general attitude to school and learning also improve.
Big Band Double Header July 2024 Start Time
