The Big Band Double Header November 2023 swing dance evening is a great night out for swing dance enthusiasts. In oxford we are very lucky to have live music playing most months. A double header typically refers to two main performances with live bands taking the stage one after the other. In this case, that means two big bands will perform, providing continuous music for swing dancers. It is a unique event in OXford’s swing dance calendar and this month our friends The Velvet Tones welcome back The Abingdon Swing Time Band to the stage. Dancing to live Jazz Swing music is the ultimate experience for dancers and this is a perfect opportunity.

Abingdon Swing Time Band at the Big Band Double Header November 2023

The Abingdon Swing Time Band return to the Big Band Double Header for a Summer evening of Jazz and swing. The provide a 20-piece swing orchestra playing the music of Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Benny Goodman and other great bands of the Swing Era. With a repertoire like that it is always a treat for swing dancers whenever they play and last time they came to Oxford it was a night to remember. You have every reason to think this Thursday will be exactly the same.

Every month the musicians play in support of a charity of the night and this month it is Maggies. Maggie’s help people take back control when cancer turns life upside down, with professional support for anything from treatment side effects to money worries. The provide the best possible free support to anyone with cancer and their families. You’ll find Maggie’s centres alongside NHS hospitals all over the country including here in Oxford and also provide support online.

This is a free event but we do suggest a donation to the charity

The event is free but a £5 donation to the charity of the night is both appreciated and expected. That really isn’t much to pay for a great night of live music with a dance floor. The venue provides a cash/card bar, free car parking and a warm welcome. Please also don’t forget the already-legendary £2 – 2 Prize Raffle which features 2 bottles of the finest sparkling wine that the local bargain supermarket can offer.
