It’s Back! Live Big Band Oxford
The Summertown Speakeasy Live returns in September for our Big Saturday Dance Night Out. Therefore, we start the new season in style with the return of The Cutting Edge Big Band. Throughout 2026 they have as our house band to keep your feet jumping. Dance the night away to live Big Band Jazz Swing music on the Speakeasy’s enormous dance floor, and art deco ambiance.
Following their fantastic Speakeasy performance in May, The Cutting Edge are back on Saturday 19th September. Join them for another evening of live Big Band Jazz and Swing. This brings a full swing orchestra, and awesome singers singers to the stage. They bring the sound, excitement and glamour of the great dance bands to Oxford.

Live music is at the heart of the Summertown Speakeasy. Hearing a complete Big Band playing while a packed dance floor moves in front of them is something recordings simply cannot reproduce. Our dance floor has room for everyone to bust their best moves and create the vibe alongside the musicians. When that happens, we don’t just have a great night, we tap into the roots of Jazz and the energy they created in the Harlem dance halls.
Opportunities to dance to a full Jazz Swing orchestra are increasingly rare. At the Speakeasy, we’re enormously proud to make that experience a regular part of Oxford’s social dance scene. We therefore invite you to come along and be part of something very special this season.
The Cutting Edge will be playing live throughout the night, with our Speakeasy DJs keeping the music flowing during the band’s breaks.

The Cherwell school was built at the beginning of the 60s but we move in early to begin our transformation. By the time the doors open at 8pm we have transformed it into a Jazz Age ballroom resplendent with Art Deco lighting throughout and a cafe area where each table is decked with black table cloths. This overlooks our huge wooden dance floor, and gives you plenty of room for Lindy Hop, Balboa, Jive, Ballroom and other partnered dance styles. Add to that our professional sound system, vintage atmosphere and giant projected visuals, and the Speakeasy becomes somewhere rather special after dark.
There is also Free On-Site Parking for all our guests. It all adds up to make an evening at the Speakeasy convenient, easy and affordable.
