The Summertown Speakeasy March 2025 sees the return of the Big Saturday Dance Night Out on the 3rd Saturday of the month. We return after taking February off when our venue was not available. The break has given us lots of enthusiasm to make this one the best of all, so far, and we would love you to join us. Once again our Djs will be at the decks.  They will be playing the best in Jazz Swing all night for dancers.

The Speakeasy is Oxford’s newest regular Swing Dance Social dance night and offers you more of everything for a great night out. Join us on Saturday 15th March 2025 for music dancing and a night of glamour as we open the doors to our Art Deco Ballroom once more. We look forward to welcoming you for a great night out that you will not want to miss. Its time to give your dance shoes a polish and and select your outfit for a great night of dancing. Tell your friends and make your way to Oxford.

The main feature of the Speakeasy is the absolutely huge dance that gives you oodles of space to Swing-Out and bust your best moves. We’ve had 100 people on there and it still didn’t look full. It really is one of Oxford’s largest spaces to dance and the largest space to social dance regularly for miles around.

As you arrive

The experience starts as you head down the steps into the courtyard for the entrance. Just follow the signs and you won’t miss it. As you then enter the main door, you will see the stage to your right and the dance floor in front of you. Then to your left you will find a raised platform with a seated area. It is set out in a cafe style layout with refreshments to help yourself. Everything is included in the entry price. Find yourself a table for the night and you are all set.

The cafe tables are all bedecked with a black table cloth and their own art deco table lamp which provides a touch of vintage glamour. A freshly cut flower is there as a centre piece. You can either help yourself to the buffet with cakes, and savoury snacks or you can bring anything you wish in with you.

When you are ready, just walk out onto the dance floor for a wonderful time.

How much does the Summertown Speakeasy March 2025 cost?

Admission : £8 Members – £12 Non-Members (Summertown Membership costs £30 for the year and entitles you to discounts at all our classes and events).

Our inspiration has been the great ballrooms of the Jazz Age. The term was made famous by F Scott Fitzgerald in his collection of eleven short stories called Tales Of The Jazz Age. Consequently we have tried to recapture the vintage glamour he lived through. We strive to create a dance night for Lindy hoppers and other swing style dancers. Our aim is that it will be somewhere you want to come back to again and again.

The Big Saturday Dance Night Out

We can’t wait to welcome you back, as well as entice a few new faces visiting us for the first time. We have a car park for exclusive use by our dancers which has room for over 70 cars and is free to use. There is contingency with a second car park if we fill that, so we think we have everyone covered. As long as you avoid the centre of town and reach us via the ring road, you should also avoid the various traffic reducing measures in place in Oxford.

How to find us

• If you approach along Marston Ferry Road from Headington & Marston. Head towards the Banbury Road junction, the turning is on the right just before you reach the junction.
• If you approach from Banbury Road. Take the turning for Marston Ferry Road and the entrance will be a left turn into the school. It’s about 0.2 miles so keep an eye out for the turning.

Problems with Sat-Nav

Apparently, there is an issue using the postcode with Sat Nav that directs you wrongly. This is due to a shared postcode. If you are using Sat Nav please ensure you enter “Cherwell School NORTH Site” on Marston Ferry Road.

Please note. If you attend our weekly Wednesday night classes, you are going to the other site on the opposite side of the road. The Summertown Speakeasy is at the North Site, not the South Site. If you go to the South site you will be on the wrong side of the road. Hopefully that wont be too confusing for everyone. We will make plenty of announcements at class to hopefully remind everyone.

Free Parking at The Speakeasy

Another of the huge advantages of the Speakeasy is that we have a dedicated off road and free car park for all our guests. Just drive in through the gates and you are immediately removed from the hassle and cost of city parking. It makes an evening at The Speakeasy just that little bit cheaper and therefore much better value.

Summertown Speakeasy March 2025 Entrance & Membership

You can purchase Membership for £30 per year. If you were planning to make this a regular event in your calendar then membership will save you money as the Member’s entrance rate is only £8. Your membership card also entitles you to reduced admission for any of our dance classes (Currently on a Wednesday night) and any of our other events such as The Summertown Swing Sunday Tea Dance Club.

For events where spaces are limited, such as our Blenheim Palace social dances, we also provide preferential access to Members. Therefore there is more to enjoy from Membership than just one event. Membership can be purchased at any time in the calendar and runs from the start of the term you purchase it to the start of the corresponding term the following year.
