Swing Dance Summertown continue our program of social dance events for 2026 with the return of The Summertown Speakeasy on 21st March 2026. The Speakeasy opens its doors from 8:00pm – 11:00pm for a night of social dancing. It has been ‘dark’ for the first two months of this year as our venue wasn’t available but returns in March 2026 for the Big Saturday Dance Night Out on the 3rd Saturday of the month. The break has made us really enthused to produce a great night out for you all, and we would love you to join us. Our Djs will be at the decks playing the best in Big Band Swing for your dancing pleasure.
What is The Summertown Speakeasy March 2026?
Our Speakeasy nights have become a highlight of the Oxford swing calendar. The Speakeasy is a place where dancers of all levels come together to share great music, warm company and a dance floor that’s alive with Swing Dance energy. We welcome dancers for Lindy Hop, Balboa, Collegiate Shag, Foxtrot and Quickstep. Whether you’re a seasoned regular or stepping into your first social dance, you’ll find a welcoming crowd and plenty of smiles at The Speakeasy.
Expect a carefully curated soundtrack of classic swing, hot jazz and irresistible big band favourites. It’s the kind of music that makes it impossible to sit still, and our enormous dance floor provides every opportunity to bust your best moves. We play the smooth, grooving tempos to accentuate your musicality. Then we mix it with the high-energy stompers. As we pick up the tempo, the dancers cut loose on the dance floor. We designed the evening to keep you dancing until the last note.
Our music policy is very simple, we play what you want to dance to and our DJs have a huge section of tunes to choose from. We encourage you to get requests in both before and during the night. We can’t promise we can play every one, but we will definitely do our best to fit as many as possible to keep your dancing feet happy.
What do I wear to the Speakeasy?
Dress up if you fancy, vintage flair is always encouraged, but the real spirit of the Speakeasy is simple. It’s good music, good people and great dancing. We provide a chance to reconnect with friends, meet new dance partners, and lose yourself in the rhythm for a few glorious hours.
There’s something magical about a Saturday night when the lights dim, the music starts, and the room begins to swing. The Summertown Speakeasy captures that magic. We are relaxed, joyful and full of life.
Make The Summertown Speakeasy March 2026 a Date!
Mark your calendar for 21st March 2026, lace up your dance shoes and join us on the floor. We can’t wait to see you there.
Your Saturday night experience starts as you head down the steps into the courtyard for the entrance. There are signs for you to follow so you wont get lost. As you enter the main door, you will see the stage to your right and the dance floor in front of you. Then to your left you will find a raised platform with a seated area. It is set out in a cafe style layout with refreshments to help yourself. Everything is included in the entry price. Find yourself a table for the night and you are all set.
The cafe tables are all bedecked with a black table cloth and their own art deco table lamp which provides a touch of vintage glamour. A freshly cut flower is there as a centre piece. You can either help yourself to the buffet with cakes, and savoury snacks or you can bring anything you wish in with you.
When you are ready, just walk out onto the dance floor for a wonderful time.
How to find us
- The first thing to say is that The Speakeasy enables you to miss out the traffic restrictions in Oxford if you approach us from the ring road. The Congestion restrictions on Marston Ferry Road end at 6:30pm which means that unless you are ridiculously early, Marston Ferry Road is unhindered and uncharged for use. If you approach along Marston Ferry Road from Headington & Marston. Head towards the Banbury Road junction, the turning is on the right just before you reach the junction.
- If you approach from Banbury Road. Take the turning for Marston Ferry Road and the entrance will be a left turn into the school. It’s about 0.2 miles so keep an eye out for the turning.
Problems with Sat-Nav
Apparently, there is an issue using the postcode with Sat Nav that directs you wrongly. This is due to a shared postcode. If you are using Sat Nav please ensure you enter “Cherwell School NORTH Site” on Marston Ferry Road.
Please note. If you attend our weekly Wednesday night classes, you are going to the other site on the opposite side of the road. The Summertown Speakeasy is at the North Site, not the South Site. If you go to the South site you will be on the wrong side of the road. Hopefully that wont be too confusing for everyone. We will make plenty of announcements at class to hopefully remind everyone.
