Join us for Summertown Speakeasy September 2025. Our DJs return for our Summertown Speakeasy September 2025 edition. Join us on Saturday September 20th 2025 from 8pm – 11:00pm for a great evening of Big Band Jazz Swing. Our enormous dance floor is waiting for you to swing out and show us all your best dance moves. We play the best in Big Band Jazz Swing at tempos for Lindy Hop, Collegiate Shag, Balboa as well as Ballroom Foxtrot, & Quickstep. We will also play the odd Waltz if you would like to request one or even have a favourite.
The Summertown Speakeasy September 2025 sees the return of the Big Saturday Jazz & Swing Dance Night Out. Whenever it is the 3rd Saturday of the month, check your calendar for the Speakeasy. Once again our DJs will be at the decks. They will play the best in Jazz Swing all night for Jazz fans and dancers. We would love you to join us.
Are you new to The Speakeasy?
The Speakeasy is Oxford’s newest regular Jazz Swing & Dance night. It attempts to recreate the great dance halls of the Jazz Age at an affordable level for everyone and offers you more of everything. Most importantly, the Speakeasy is a great night out, and one we think you will want to repeat again and again. Social dancing means that you don’t need a regular partner because the aim is to dance with everyone. Of course, if you do have a partner, you are also very welcome and we would love you to join us on our dance floor as well as get to know other dancers.
Join us on Saturday 20th September 2025 for music, dancing and a night of glamour. At 8pm the doors to our Art Deco Ballroom will open once more to welcome you in. We look forward to it and will be all ready for an evening that you will not want to miss. Make sure you give your dance shoes a polish and dig out a Saturday Night outfit because we will go to every effort in order to make this night special for you. It will be a night of Jazz Swing & dancing. Tell your friends and make your way to Oxford for The Summertown Speakeasy.
Come Dancing at The Speakeasy
The main feature of the Speakeasy is the absolutely huge dance that gives you oodles of space to Swing-Out and bust your best moves. We’ve had 100 people on there and it still didn’t look full. Consequently it is one of Oxford’s largest spaces to dance and the largest space to social dance regularly for miles around.
Similarly, if you just want to enjoy the spectacle of the dancers with the music playing. Savour the refreshments in our cafe area, because there is a table waiting for you at The Speakeasy.
What to expect at Summertown Speakeasy September 2025
The Speakeasy ‘experience’ starts the moment that you walk through our doors. Firstly, park up in our dedicated off-road car park. It’s free to use for all our dancers and guests. It also makes it a really affordable night out that is very convenient and there is plenty of room for everyone. Walk through the gates and make your way down the steps into the courtyard where you will see signs pointing you towards the entrance. As long as you follow the signs and you won’t miss the entrance. As you then enter the main door, you will see the stage to your right and the dance floor in front of you.
The dance floor is where the magic happens, and it’s waiting for you.
On your left you will find a some steps leading up to a raised platform. This is where you will find our seated area with tables laid out and ready for you. Each table is set with a black table cloth, an art deco lamp and a freshly cut flower. All this combines with the rest of the ambiance to set a scene for a night of dancing and enjoyment. There is also a refreshments table to help yourself.
Everything is included in the entry price and we think its one of the best value nights around. Find yourself a table for the night and you are all set. Each table seats between 8 and 10 people so feel free to double up with other people and get to know each other. As a result, this is a night where everyone is a friend, even the ones you haven’t met yet.
How much does the Summertown Speakeasy September 2025 cost?
Admission is £8 Members and £12 Non-Members. Summertown Membership costs £30 for the year and entitles you to discounts at all our classes and events. We accept all forms of payment with cash, card and contactless welcome.
When we came up with the idea of ‘The Speakeasy’ we wanted to recapture the vintage glamour of the great ballrooms of ‘The Jazz Age’. This term was the description that F Scott Fitzgerald used in his publication “Tales Of The Jazz Age”. It resonates with us and through time to convey a period where glamour mixed with dancing whilst the music played. Everything we do is with that in mind. We bring a touch vintage glamour to a dance night at a price which is not prohibitive.Our ultimate goal is to create a haven for those who love to dance Lindy Hop, Swing or Ballroom styles but also for those who love listening to the music and watching the dancers. It will be somewhere you want to come back to again and again.
How to find The Summertown Speakeasy & Free Parking
Access to The Speakeasy is on Marston Ferry Road at Cherwell School North Site. If you approach from Headington & Marston and towards the Banbury Road junction, the turning is on the right. It’s just before you reach the junction.
If you approach from Banbury Road. Take the turning for Marston Ferry Road and the entrance will be a left turn into the school. It’s about 0.2 miles so keep an eye out for the turning.
Once you make the turning, you will immediately see that the gates on your right will be open, so just drive in. There is space for over 70 cars so there will not be a problem parking. Parking is free of charge for all our dancers & guests.
Sat-Nav Postcode Problems Finding us?
There is an issue using the postcode with Sat Nav. It is due to a shared postcode and it will direct you close but not exactly to the school. If you are using Sat Nav please ensure you enter “Cherwell School NORTH Site” on Marston Ferry Road.
Please note. If you attend our weekly Wednesday night classes, you are going to the other site on the opposite side of the road. The Summertown Speakeasy is at the North Site, not the South Site. If you go to the South site you will be on the wrong side of the road. Hopefully that wont be too confusing for everyone. We will make plenty of announcements at class to hopefully remind everyone.

Summertown Speakeasy September 2025 Membership
You can purchase Membership for £30 per year. If you were planning to make the Speakeasy a regular event in your calendar then membership will save you money as the Member’s entrance rate is only £8. Your membership card also entitles you to reduced admission for any of our dance classes (Currently on a Wednesday night) and any of our other events such as The Summertown Swing Sunday Tea Dance Club.
We also provide preferential access to Members for any events where the numbers are limited. Recently this has included some very posh and swanky events at premium venues. It means there is more to enjoy from Membership than just one event. Membership can be purchased at any time in the calendar and runs from the start of the term you purchase it to the start of the corresponding term the following year.
