The Big Band Double Header is back for January 2023. The Velvet Tones begin their live Jazz Swing gigs for the year by hosting the fabulous Bob Cutting Big Band. Come along to the Oxford Golf Club, Hill Top Road, Oxford, OX4 1PF on Thursday, 19th January 2023 at 20:00 for a great evening of live big band music and dancing.
Every month, our friends, The Velvet Tones, invite another Big band along for a night of entertainment with everyone performing to support a named charity of the night. This month the charity is Oxford Daybreak.
About Daybreak Oxford
Daybreak Oxford run three day centre / clubs in Oxfordshire. The aim of each of them is to provide care and support to people living with dementia as well as those who care for them and to provide facilities to help with that. It is unique in providing social and therapeutic respite days, helping couples stay together at home. This approach delays and sometimes avoids the need for residential care.
Bob Cutting at the Big Band Double Header for January 2023
The Bob Cutting Big Band is Oxford’s longest established Big Band. It is led by Bob Cutting, who has played with the Eddie Curtis Orchestra, and for many years with The John Miller Orchestra and before that the Herb Miller Orchestra. These bands celebrated the music of their famous relative, the great Glenn Miller, and Bob was their lead trumpet/soloist, playing the key moments in music that defined a generation.
Joining the band onstage will be Karen Wymbs, who never fails to deliver a swinging vocal to keep everyone entertained and the dance floor jumping.

The event is free but a £5 donation to the charity of the night is suggested and expected. Don’t forget to hold some money back for the £1 – one prize raffle. This features the finest bottle of sparkling wine that the bargain shelf of the local supermarket can offer! It is a great way for new dancers to take their first steps onto the social dance floor.
