Big Band Double Header June 2023 with Blakes Heaven

The Big Band Double Header June 2023 swing dance evening is a great night out for swing dance enthusiasts. In oxford we are very lucky to have live music playing most months. A double header typically refers to two main performances with live bands taking the stage one after the other. In this case, that mean two big bands will perform, providing continuous music for swing dancers. It is a unique event in OXford’s swing dance calendar and this month our friends The Velvet Tones welcome back Blake’s Heaven to the stage.

Blakes Heaven at the Big Band Double Header June 2023

Blakes Heaven are a return to the Big Band Double Header for a Summer evening of Jazz and swing. Fronted by Nicholas Blake they bring the Big Band format up to date with an 18-piece ensemble playing Jazz, Swing, Funk & the occasional jazzed up pop tune. Nicholas is multi talented and also writes his own arrangements which gives this band a unique and very impressive sound. They never fail to get the dance floor going and are always a welcome addition to the line-up.

Yellow Submarine

Every month the musicians play in support of a charity of the night and this month it is Yellow Submarine. They are an award winning Oxfordshire charity that believes people with learning disabilities and autism deserve to live life to the full. Yellow Submarine offer a variety of services to those with mild to moderate needs including social clubs, activity days, residential holidays and a traineeship. These projects increase confidence and independence in our members as well as provide respite for families and carers. Its a great charity to support.

This is a free event but we do suggest a donation to the charity

The event is free but a £5 donation to the charity of the night is both appreciated and expected. That really isn’t much to pay for a great night of live music with a dance floor. The venue provides a cash/card bar, free car parking and a warm welcome. Please also don’t forget the already-legendary £2 – 2 Prize Raffle which features 2 bottles of the finest sparkling wine that the local bargain supermarket can offer.
