The Big Band Double Header 2023 is in a couple of weeks time. Our friends, The Velvet Tones, are back with a great evening of entertainment which has moved venue to the North Oxford Golf Club. There will be live music & dancing for the rest of Spring and Summer. It will go thorugh to Autumn for a full program of Jazz & Big Band Swing music to enjoy.
This month the guest band is the brilliant Big Band Swing from Aylesbury. Bring your friends and family & most importantly, your dancing shoes. Join us for a fun filled evening of great music and dance.
We are very lucky in Oxford to have such a vibrant and healthy Jazz scene. Consequently, we get opportunities to dance that you don’t find in too many other places. The Big Band Double Header is one of those special bonuses for Oxford Dancers and we welcome everyone from further afield. There really is nothing quite like dancing to a live band. The dance floor gets you right up close to appreciate the full experience.
Oxford Hospitals Charity
Every month the Big Band Double Header supports a local charity. This month we are all supporting the Oxford Hospitals Charity. The Oxford Hospitals Charity supports the different departments and wards of Oxford University Hospitals. As a result they help provide the best medical equipment, research and facilities for patients and staff.
Consequently your support helps transform care across all the hospitals in Oxford, including the John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital, Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Horton General Hospital and Oxford Children’s Hospital. Many people will already know first hand the amazing work these heroic professionals do and we hope that everyone can help us put on a great night to help them.
The event is free but a £5 donation to the charity of the night is both appreciated and expected. That really isn’t much to pay for a great night of live music with a dance floor. The venue provides a cash/card bar, free car parking and a warm welcome.
Big Band Double Header May 2023 Big News
Throughout the history of this regular Oxford event and dipping back into the mists of time, it has become famous for the £1 – 1 prize raffle featuring the finest bottle of sparkling wine that the bargain shelf of the local super market can provide. The big news, is that along with the change of venue this tradition has received an exciting upgrade. Consequently, it will now be known as the £2 – 2 Prize Raffle. We realise that his may be too much excitement to pack into one night. As a result, there is now double the chances of going home with a bottle on the night.
This is an opportunity for a great night of dancing and we hope you can join us for the evening. This and all events will be added to the Swing Dance Calendar.
