Swing into Christmas with The Bob Cutting Big Band

Sunday 10th December 2023, 7:30pm – 10:30pm

Drayton Village Hall, Lockway, Drayton, OX14 4LG.

Swing into Christmas with The Bob Cutting Big Band. Every year on the second Sunday in December, Bob and his band do a very special Christmas Jazz show with music singing and dancing. This year it is on the 10th December 2023 at Drayton Village Hall. Bob Cutting & His Orchestra really enjoyed having dancers for their last gig and are very keen to repeat the experience. Karen Wymbs is the featured vocalist, delivering a mixture of classic Big Band Swing and a few festive numbers too.

The doors open at 7.30pm for a night of live Jazz. Tickets are £12 & available on Bob’s Website. You also get a discount from £12 down to £9.60 if you put DANCER as the code entry. The venue has a bar stocked with your favourite tipple and a great dance floor that is just waiting for you to join us, and strut your stuff. The venue also has free off-street car parking.

How the Bob Cutting Big Band Swing into Christmas event came about

For those that don’t know Bob was lead trumpet player in the Herb Miller Band which carried on the music of Herb’s famous brother Glenn. They toured back in the 90s with Simon Selmon & Rusty Frank as their featured dancers. Bob has had a career spanning the decades and met many of the greats.

It was back in 1972, when a young Bob Cutting joined the Eddie Curtis Orchestra. He worked, recorded and toured as lead trumpet/soloist with The John Miller Orchestra and before that the Herb Miller Orchestra. This was the beginning of a professional career in performing and teaching that brings us to today. There have been other notable freelance ventures with various bands and shows such as Swings the Thing, Debbie Curtis Radio Big Band, The Joe Loss Orchestra, The Ray McVay Orchestra and The Glenn Miller UK band being a few to note.

It’s always enlightening to have a chat with Bob about the days of the Big Band sound and the relationship between the music, the musicians and the dance floor.

The Bob Cutting Big Band Christmas Dance Night promises to be a really fun night out so please do come along and join us on the dance floor.

For those who are attending the Summertown Swing Tea Dance earlier in the day, a few of us did both gigs last year. There is plenty of time to stay until the end of the tea party, then grab some dinner before heading out to Drayton. Therefore it is possible to do both in the same day. It’s also quite a lot of fun.
